Veganism on Ellen!

Jonathan Safran Foer, author of “Eating Animals,” appeared on Ellen yesterday (11/4/09) to discuss veganism and his book. I love how frank he is in his interview, considering the majority of people viewing him are probably meat eaters that are not interested in changing their viewpoint. In the question and answer section, someone asks:
“My doctor told me I was becoming iron and protein deficient as a vegetarian, so I had to go back to eating meat.” and Ellen prompts: “What do you say to that?”

He answers, quite boldly, “You have to get a new doctor! The American Dietetic Association, which is the gold standard for nutrition in our country, says exactly the opposite. Not only do you not have to seek out more protein, but that vegetarians have a more optimal protein intake than meat eaters. It is a lie that has been sold to you, and you should resist it.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself! Check out the interview here! (Ellen is vegetarian, by the way)
